We have been partnered with Samsung for over 10 years and of course there’s a story behind them. When DiscountCall first started in 1996, we only sold phone lines and Internet services mainly through T1’s through our Referral Partner Program. They always say your customers will tell you how to grow and that was the case. Numerous customers constantly asked me for a reference to someone who could sell them a phone system and I kept passing them out like a dealer in a poker room. Then the calls started coming in. “Randy, the reference was a nice guy and all but he’s always too busy to answer my questions”. “That guy forgot to tell me how to program my voicemail”. “Randy, do you have anyone else you can recommend?”. Needless to say, I was officially in the phone system business right then. I first needed to pick a brand and decided it would only be one unlike most PBX Vendors, which carry at least two or more. I’ll give business reasons on another post, or email me.
I decided on Samsung, it was the most expensive of the few I referred to, but I saw that the systems installed under my regime didn’t have service calls…..ever. Being a greenhorn in the business and having barely any back office, this was my only choice. Since then, Samsung has done a fantastic job providing us with great products and allowing us to package it properly for our customers. This isn’t Best Buy you know, with us pushing boxes. There is so much that goes into a purchase and upkeep of a system and service and I’ve never heard “Randy, the phones are the lifeblood of my business. If they’re out, I’m outta business.”
Since then, mostly what I hear is “I didn’t know Samsung sold phone systems. I have a Samsung monitor. Here look. I’ve got a Samsung phone right here. I have a Samsung fridge at home so I know the brand.” From then on, it’s not so much selling as it is listening. The brand is large and accepted, but what can it do for a business? I carefully listen to what business owners are looking for, don’t want, or hope to have one day. If I can’t match up Samsung and DiscountCall, then it’s a handshake and good luck. If things match up and a handshake of I trust you let’s do business, then it’s collecting a deposit and the pre-programming begins!
